It’s finally that time of year…christmas sugar cookie & frosting time! My family and I have been making this recipe for years, and every year they are such a treat! If you would like to try out another one of my recipes, make sure to check out my banana muffin recipe.

The Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Let’s bake:

  • In a large bowl mix together butter and sugar until the mixture is creamy
  • Throughly mix in the egg, milk, and vanilla
  • In a separate bowl mix the dry ingredients together (flour, salt, baking powder)
  • Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet mixture and combine well
  • ****IMPORTANT STEP: Form the dough into two flat disks, each in a large ziplock or plastic wrap, and store in the refrigerator for at least two hours (the disks should be rolled to be about 1/2 inch thick)
  • After the disks have chilled roll them out on a floured surface to be about 1/4 inch thick
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  • Cut the cookies in your desired shape and pop them in the oven for 9-12 minutes
  • Enjoy!

The Frosting

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon softened butter
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
  • food coloring if you’d like

LET’S BAKE:

  • Combine powdered sugar, water, butter, corn syrup, and vanilla/almond extract in a mixing bowl
  • Mix until powdered sugar is blended in and the mixture is smooth, adding water in small increments if needed
  • Add the food coloring you desire
  • Enjoy!

I hope you enjoy making (and eating) these cookies! The icing is soooo yummy. If you make this recipe either DM me on my instagram or comment a photo!

Stay Smiling,

Ainsley Mo
